3 of 5 seats open for City Council

The City of Arcadia has issued the following notice of an all-mail ballot to elect three of five City Council seats on April 8. Two current City Council members and former Mayors are termed out this election cycle — Bob Harbicht and Peter Amundson — and current Mayor Mickey Segal is up for re-election though it is not known if Segal will run again. This means that three seats are available to a new candidate or any former Council member such as Roger Chandler, who was termed out two years ago. Current City Council members and former Mayors John Wuo and Gary Kovacic are in the middle of four-year terms. Wuo is currently the Mayor Pro Tem but would need to be elected by a majority of the new City Council in April to be Mayor next year. The position of Mayor is appointed annually to one of the five Council members elected by voters with the Council members choosing amongst themselves who will be Mayor each year. Council members may serve two consecutive four-year terms before being required to sit out at least two years before running for re-election. Segal is ending a four-year term and is eligible for re-election if he chooses to run again. Candidates must submit application paperwork between Dec. 16 – Jan. 13.
