210 closed Monday night

A reminder that all eastbound lanes of the 210 freeway from Baldwin Avenue to Santa Anita Avenue will be closed from 11 p.m. Monday night until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, June 19, for work on the Gold Line bridge.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted  at Rosemead Boulevard to eastbound Foothill Boulevard through Arcadia.

Construction traffic in the area will increase during this closure, and throughout the day on Tuesday, due to cement truck ingress and egress to the bridge site, according to the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority.

The Arcadia Police advise to please avoid the area, if possible. Alternate routes may include Huntington Drive, Las Tunas Drive to Live Oak Avenue/Arrow Highway, or the eastbound IS 10 Freeway.

Work on the bridge in the last several weeks has been focused on finishing the internal elements for the bridge, including completing the reinforcing steel work, forming the internal walls that will support the bridge deck, and preparing the overall structure and falsework for next week’s concrete pour. Starting late Monday, 2,100 cubic yards of concrete will be placed to form the main outrigger beam and lower half of the superstructure. This will require more than 200 concrete trucks accessing the site over an 18-hour period, sparking the need for the full closure.

Meanwhile, authority contractor, Foothill Transit Constructors, has nearly completed demolition of the abandoned rail bridge over Colorado Boulevard in Arcadia. The new bridge will accommodate the two-track light rail system. The bridge demolition was the first significant construction effort for FTC and the Alignment project. It took several weeks to first remove the track, ties, ballast, and hazardous materials (lead paint an contaminated soil); and then this week crews were able to remove the superstructure itself.
