The Westerner, located at 161 Colorado Place on historic Route 66, was owned by Walter Muller, and opened in 1947. This was a popular hotel and resort that featured in-room phone service, a swimming pool, a restaurant plus a lounge next door, Marty’s Westerner, with live entertainment. (Both facilities were demolished to become a large office building.) Down the street at 275 Colorado was the Santa Anita Frontier Hotel. This facility survived demolition and its 12 units were converted into private homes.
