The Piggery

Thoroughbred, Arabian and Percheron horses, Mammoth Jacks and Jennets, Holstein-Triesian cattle, and Berkshire and Poland-China swine were in stock at the Anoakia Breeding Farm. Of particular interest would be the Poland-China swine, as this breed was introduced in Ohio in the 1830s, near the time of Lucky Baldwin’s birth, and in the area in which his family lived, Hamilton, Ohio, in the Miami River Valley. It was one of the largest breeds, a farmer’s favorite, and the one preferred by packers.

Anita Baldwin had one of the greatest herds of Poland-China hogs on the Pacific Coast.
