The Albert Perkins Family

The Albert Perkins family lived in this house on West Lemon Avenue in 1919 before moving a number of years later to West Huntington Drive and becoming neighbors of the Rudesill family.

Emil Boltz and James Griffitts appointed Albert Perkins to City Council in June 1939 to fill the unexpired term of Arthur Malin. Malin had been removed from office by a recall election. At this time (1938-39), Arcadia was in the throws of political turmoil caused by resignations and a recall election. No City business could be conducted for several weeks because of a lack of a quorum. Albert Perkins served as Mayor from 1940 to 1942.

During his years of public service, Perkins was instrumental in the installation of Arcadia’s sewer system, served on the committee that formed Arcadia’s Charter and helped find housing for 6,000 dependents of soldiers stationed at Camp Santa Anita during World War II.
