The Development Services Department has conditionally approved a Temporary Use Permit to allow the Lantern Art Expo at Santa Anita Park in the South Parking Lot. The expo will include larger-than-life lantern displays (similar in scale to those at the Arboretum at the holidays), live performance, and booths for merchandise, food, and drinks.
The approved dates are October 18-20, October 25-27, October 30-31, November 1- 3, November 8-10, and November 15-17. The hours will be from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Alcohol will be allowed and they expect a maximum of 9,500 people per night. The organizers hope this will become a signature event in the San Gabriel Valley in the coming years and they aim to advance Chinese cultural appreciation through their displays and performances.
As with most events similar to this (e.g., the 626 Night Market), the City will receive minor sales taxes and the organizers will pay for the full cost of police, fire, and any other City services required for the event.
