In 1925, the Santa Anita Hunt and Riding Club, housed in the old Ross Field Officers Headquarters on Huntington Drive, petitioned the Arcadia city Council for permission to maintain a bridle path in the center of Santa Anita Avenue, referred at this time as “Double Drive.” Permission was granted and the bridle path was maintained on the avenue north into the mountains, where many trails led into the foothills and canyons. Several Riding Academy’s were available for horseback riding lessons and hourly rentals
