Retired teachers: Exergaming

Presenters from USC will discuss getting exercise from videogaming at the Retired Teachers Association #71 (CalRTA) luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, at the Senior Center Building in Arcadia Park, 405 W. Santa Anita Aven. next to the Lawn Bowling Greens.

“Exergaming” is a fairly new term that was coined to explain the physical interaction by the player with a video game–such as a Nintendo Wii computer game–that calls for some form of exercise.  Exergaming has benefits, not just for young people, but for senior citizens, too.

USC presenters Sheryl Flynn, PT, PhD, and Belinda Lange, Physio, D., PhD, will provide the California Retired with an overview of the uses of exergaming/video game technology and its positive effects on aging.

Guests are welcome to come enjoy the luncheon and the presentation on exergaming. There is even an opportunity for audience members to try their hands at exergaming!

The cost of the luncheon for members and guests is $10.

Reservation deadline is Friday, Feb. 5. For luncheon information, please call John Gera at (626) 286-0714.  Membership in the California Retired Teachers’ Association is open to all retired educators, as well as to any others interested in joining this active group.
