Recreation and Community Services Weekly Report- Sunday, August 21st - Saturday, August 27th, 2022

COMMUNITY CONNECT

On Tuesday, August 30, Arcadia Fire Department Chief Briggs and Deputy Chief Suen assisted seniors to sign up for the Community Connect program. It’s free, it’s easy and we encourage everyone to sign up and provide as much information about your household. By providing information about you and your household, first responders can better assist you.

SENIOR LUNCH PROGRAM Seniors enjoy stopping by the Community Center to have lunch, visit with friends and staff, meet new people, and socialize. Seniors enjoy their daily lunch meal and look forward to some of their favorite dishes like meatloaf, beef stew, and the most popular, fish every Friday. Birthdays are celebrated each month with cupcakes for everyone! A total of 400 lunch meals were served the week of August 22.

ADULT BASKETBALL The Summer season is close to the end for the Sunday Adult Basketball League. On Sunday, August 21, 22 teams battled it out on the court to get the win and advance to playoffs. It was an eventful day there was plenty of excitement for players and spectators.

AFTERSHOOL PROGRAM The afterschool program is a free program offered to youth in grades 1-5. The program is held at six Arcadia elementary school sites. All sites are currently filled to capacity with an ongoing waitlist. A variety of activities are offered to keep participants engaged and entertained. The program is available this schoolyear from August 22, through June 2, 2023. During the week of August 22, there were 775 registered participants.
