Recreation and Community Services Department Weekly Report Sunday, July 17th -Saturday, July 23th

SENIOR CLASSES Senior classes started Monday July 18 with 375 students registered. Some of the classes offered are Strength Training, Yoga, Beginning and Intermediate Line Dance, Ballroom Dance, Oil Painting, drawing, Tai Chi, Zumba and more. Virtual classes have 40 participants registered.

SUMMER FUN ‘N PLAY – Week 7 The Summer Fun ‘N Play program provides a variety of recreational games, arts & crafts, indoor and outdoor activities, wacky Wednesday, and more for ages 5-12. Fun ‘N Play will take place through August 12 at Camino Grove and Hugo Reid Elementary Schools. Participants had Sierra Madre Search and Rescue come and talk to them about wilderness safety.

SPORTS CAMP - Week

Summer Sports Camp participants is on its second week where participants can engage in athletic drills, sports theme activities, and weekly entertainment. Summer Sports Camp operates with approved modifications by Los Angeles County Department of Public Health Safer at Home Order for Control of COVID-19.

Campers enjoyed XP Mobile Laser Tag for two days.

SPECIALTY CAMPS – Week 6 Specialty Camps are offered to participants ages 4 to 12 at different sites with half-day and full-day camps available. There is something for everyone such as Lego building, cooking, tennis, art, soccer camp, and more. This week the following camps took place: Famous Tennis Camp: In this camp, participants learn the fundamentals of tennis such as serving drills, playing in engaging games for all skill levels. Half and Full Day Brit West Soccer Camp: With an option of Half Day or Full Day Camp, participants can engage in activities. Everyone receives a soccer t-shirt.

SUMMER CONCERT AND MOVIE SERIES – Week 5 On Thursday, July 21, 527 people came out to see Alumni Acoustic who played classic rock music. The crowd was able to browse booths, order food, and kids enjoyed fun activities and games. At dusk, 186 people watched the movie Sing 2.

DON'T MISS AUGUST 4, ARCADIA 119TH BIRTHDAY, NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, UPSTREAM AND LUCA Upstream (Caribbean) - Upstream has been spreading their message of love and positivity through their exhilarating Caribbean Music, namely, Reggae, Calypso, Soca and Steel Drum Music. Through the years they have mesmerized audiences throughout the world and brought many to kneel at their alter of ultimate enjoyment. Luca PG - Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water's surface. National Night Out and Arcadia’s 119th Birthday – National Night Out promotes crime prevention and awareness through police community partnerships. Arcadia’s Police Department and Fire Department will be there along with Arcadia Police SWAT Team, K-9’s and Area Commanders. There will be free fingerprinting, an obstacle course for kids, and much more! We will also be celebrating the City’s 119th birthday. Enjoy a birthday cupcake (while supplies last).
