Newcastle Park

On January 2, 1978, Newcastle Park’s dedication ceremony was to have been held at the Colorado site. However, rain cancelled the event and the ceremonies were held at the Arcadia Public Library. Dignitaries from Newcastle, Australia were on hand for the dedication. During the dedication ceremonies a hand full of dirt from the park was packaged and given to the delegation to take back to Australia, signifying the relationship.

In September of 1978, Arcadia celebrated its 75th birthday with an event entitled “Diamond Jubilee.”  As a part of this occasion, Newcastle Park was re-dedicated.

Newcastle’s Sister City affiliation began after a visit from a group of Arcadians with the “Arcadia Friendship Club” in 1972.

Newcastle’s “The Marching Koalas” participated in the 1984 Pasadena Rose Parade, again in 1992, 2007, and last appeared in the 2018 Rose Parade.

Many Arcadia families remain in touch with Newcastle residents by way of visits and correspondence.
