A La Salle High School student, two Little League mothers and Arcadia Firefighters will be honored at Arcadia American Little League’s closing ceremonies to be held at noon Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Windsor Field on Michillinda Avenue.
On April 24th, 43 year-old Arcadia resident Jill Hisey was helping her son put on his catcher’s gear at Windsor Field when she suddenly collapsed and stopped breathing. Sue Selinske, whose son is on the same team, raced into the dugout and started mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. A moment later, Mary Lesh, a mother from the opposing team ran in and began chest compressions. Matthew Breda, who was keeping score and is recently CPR certified, climbed down from his perch and took over CPR.
Sue, Mary and Matthew kept Jill breathing until the arrival of paramedics who took Jill to Methodist Hospital of Arcadia where she was treated and is recovering well.
Arcadia American Little League is honoring Sue, Mary, Matthew and the firefighters who saved Jill’s life. Arcadia Mayor Pro-Tem Gary Kovacic and other members of the City Council will be in attendance to recognize these local heroes.
Arcadia American Little League strives to implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage and respect for authority, so that they may be well adjusted, stronger and happier children. Arcadia American Little League has been serving children since 1958.
