Kinsler on school board sans vote

Kay Kinsler will become the newest member of the Arcadia Board of Education on July 1. Kinsler, who has been Arcadia Council President since 2009 and was president of the PTA/PTSA at Arcadia High School (2007-09), Foothills Middle School (2004-05), and Highland Oaks Elementary School (2001-02), gets the seat without having to participate in an election since she was one of three candidates filing for three seats on the Governing Board. The other two are current board members Lori Phillipi and Cung Nguyen, who filed to run for re-election. 20-year board member Maryann Gibson opted not to run again.

Thus, with only three candidates for three slots by the extended deadline of January 26, there will be no election this year, saving the district $275,000 in costs budgeted to stage an election, which would have been on April 19. The board candidates will be appointed at the next Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 8, and officially start their new term of office July 1.

Kinsler was also Foothills Music Club President from 2002-2004 and is an active member of Assistance League of Arcadia, where she has held numerous board positions.
