Hearing technology at AAUW May 12

Thanks to a Career Development grant from the American Association of University Women (AAUW), grant recipient Lisa Yuan now has the opportunity to realize her goal of studying for the Master’s degree in Assistive Technology at CSU-Northridge. Lisa Yuan will share with her audience her personal experience with hearing loss, and explain how assistive technology has truly enhanced her life, when she speaks at the Monday evening meeting of the Arcadia Branch of AAUW on May 12 at 7:00 p.m. The Branch meets at the Church of the Good Shepherd’s Jordan Hall, 400 W. Duarte Rd. (SW corner Duarte Rd. and Holly Ave.), Arcadia.

Lisa Yuan will explain how she has relied on a cochlear implant, hearing aid, captioning, and assistive listening devices to enable her to remain active and independent in everyday life. Furthermore, her goal is to help others with hearing disabilities to find the tools they need so they can enjoy fuller lives at home, in school, at work, and in social situations. While working for her Master’s degree at CSU-Northridge, Lisa has engaged in such projects as promoting captioning at movie theatres and advocating for insurance coverage for hearing aids.

Lisa has expressed her appreciation for the AAUW Funds Career Development grant that is enabling her to realize her educational goal and to ultimately help others. The public is invited to this free meeting, and there is ample parking in the church parking lot. All are invited to come at 6:30 p.m. for socializing and refreshments.
