Gov declares state of emergency

Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. (Jerry) has declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles County and Rancho Cucamonga as a result of damage from the wind storm Nov. 30/Dec. 1. This opens the door for state and federal financial aid for repairs and clean-up efforts in 16 area cities that declared local states of emergency more than a week ago. Cumulative damage estimates across San Gabriel Valley is estimated at roughly $75 million.

The Governor ordered “The California Department of Transportation formally request immediate assistance through the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief Program, 23 U.S.C. section 125, in order to obtain federal assistance for critical highway repairs or reconstruction in the County of Los Angeles and City of Rancho Cucamonga.

Some preliminary estimates of damage costs to area cities have ranged from $2 mil.-plus in Arcadia to $7 mil. in Sierra Madre, $10 mil. in Temple City and $21 mil. in Pasadena.
