The Public Works Services Department is providing one free 2-gallon Kitchen Compost Pail to Arcadia residents to aid in the transition to organics recycling. Residents may use the pail in their kitchen to collect daily food waste, which can then be transferred and dumped into their green organics recycling cart outside. Over the past few days, our phone lines have really been lighting up with requests for the items and we are planning on ordering a second batch of the units to meet demands. Unfortunately, distribution is currently on hold due to the recent surge in COVID infections, and will resume on Thursday, January 20. Rather than doing distributions on a individual basis, we will be switching to an event-style format. Residents may come by the Public Works parking lot between 9:00-11:00 AM and 2:00-4:00 PM on January 20 to pick up a free pail. Pails will be distributed by staff during those time slots, providing an opportunity for residents to inquire about organics recycling. This will continue every Thursday until supplies run out, limit one per household. Residents can contact Public Works Services at 254-2712 or 254-2706 for more information about the program.
