Flying Rotarians Airlift Food to Hopi Indians in Arizona

As reported in The Arcadia Tribune on November 22, 1970, forty-five privately owned airplanes airlifted 24,000 lbs. of donated food for more than 5,000 Hopi Indians in Arizona to brighten their Thanksgiving. Using their own private planes, the flying Rotarians transported pinto beans, rice, macaroni, powdered milk, potatoes, flour, lard, and other staples to the reservation. The Antique Aircraft Association and the Protective Order of Tail Draggers were on hand to support the mission with twelve additional planes as well as back-up pilots.
