Early Photo of Arcadia

Image 8-16-16 at 3.04 PM

This photograph appeared in an Arcadia newspaper in the 1930s, a part of a feature story of the city’s history. The corner pictured is that of First Avenue and Wheeler Street and its caption tells the story. The reference made to Arcadia’s first public library, 25 N. First Avenue, was in use from 1930 to 1961. The Oakwood Hotel is out of sight behind the pine tree forest. The Oakwood was destroyed by fire in November of 1911.
