Early Arcadia on Baldwin Avenue in 1922

This scene is of Baldwin Avenue in 1922, looking north from about 300 feet south of Duarte Road. Bruce Wetmore’s property is on the left and Peter Cuccia’s building is on the right, as noted by Mr. Wetmore on the back of this photo. Mr. Cuccia developed the West Arcadia business district on the east side of Baldwin Avenue in 1925 that gave Arcadia’s Downtown significant unwanted competition. Mr. Wetmore went on to own a gas and service station there for many years. He gave a young teenager, Hal Libby, his first job, pumping gas in 1941.
