A Message from your Arcadia Downtown Business Association Board:

Agenda Speakers City of Arcadia ~ City Staff and Parking Consultant:

The City of Arcadia is conducting a parking study for the Downtown area.

Take this quick 12-question survey that will take only a minute or two when you click here.

This study is a result of the Arcadia General Plan and will assess the parking needs of the Downtown and Gold Line Depot for the future. The city would like to have input from business and property owners to determine these needs. The study will cover the following parking in the Downtown area: * City Parking Lot 1 ~ The large lot from Santa Anita to First (Post Office Lot) * City Parking Lot 2 ~ The two smaller lots that run along Wheeler East of First Street Parking options: The City will also discuss parking needs on First Avenue below Huntington Drive.

Steve Gibson and Ashley Westman ~ Urban Place Consulting Group

With the Arcadia City Council unanimously agreeing to help the Association financially, we have been able to hire Urban Place Consulting Group. Urban Place specializes in developing Downtown Associations and Business Improvement Districts. They have already started their work, and we need more input from you the Business and Property owners of Downtown Arcadia.

* When you hear Downtown Arcadia, what words come to mind? * What brings you to the Downtown area? * What do you feel the Downtown needs to attract more people? * What two types of businesses would you like to see open in the Downtown?

These are questions that we want you and your neighbors to answer. This is an important time, as we need to lay down the foundation of the Downtown to prepare for the Metro Gold Line Depot that will be opened in a few years.

Please e-mail Matt McSweeny at mattdennys@sbcglobal.net for any questions regarding our next meeting or agenda items listed above. We hope you will join us and please pass this on to your neighbors or those that are interested in improving Arcadia’s Downtown.

THE EXITEMENT IS BUILDING ~ WE NEED YOU!

The first community parade is coming to Downtown Arcadia as part of the first annual Arcadia’s Best Patriotic Festival from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 2. The free event starts with a parade on First Avenue from Duarte Road to Bonita Street that will feature a dozen former Rose Queens and Princesses from Arcadia spanning seven decades, and be followed by a street fair on First Avenue between Huntington Drive and California Street that includes a community car show, photo contest by Downtown Arcadia’s Belle n’ Beau Photography, 10 gourmet food trucks, and performances by local groups including Arcadia Blues Club of 16 E. Huntington Drive. The Downtown Arcadia Business Association booth will also have a booth at the festival.

Matt Denny’s Ale House at 145 E. Huntington Dr. will host a pre-parade breakfast at 7:30 a.m. featuring the Rose Queens and Princesses. The event created by non-profit community events group Arcadia’s Best Foundation is unanimously approved by the Arcadia City Council and supported by the City of Arcadia and the Arcadia Police and Fire Departments. Among the elements of the street fair will be the Lions Club’s 50-foot mobile eye exam vehicle and a 40-foot model of the Gold Line light rail station and tracks coming soon to Downtown Arcadia.Other entries in the parade will be a team of Clydesdale horses, the Arcadia Police Mounted Patrol, classic Model As, Corvettes, Shriners mini cars and motorcycle units, and an official police car, fire engine and ambulance from the 1920s – 1960s. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and 30 members of the American Legion represent just a few of the groups marching in the parade. Other groups and businesses are invited to join.

We hope many of the businesses on First Avenue will be open for this exciting event! The Arcadia Downtown Business Association will have a booth on First Avenue for the parade. If you would like to help as a volunteer for the Associations Booth, please e-mail Matt McSweeny.
