Santa Anita Derby Day and 5K, Saturday, April 9: The exciting annual day of horse racing begins with the 22nd annual one-of-a-kind run-walk 5K for all ages and competitors starting at Westfield Santa Anita mall, winding through the L.A. County Arboretum, and finishing on the race track with your finish line crossing captured on the giant video board. Then it’s truly off to the races in the afternoon where there will also be a KROQ Craft Brewfest and a Family Fun Zone in the infield. Travel advisory: Baldwin Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic between the 210 Freeway and Huntington Drive from 7:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. in order to accommodate runners and walkers participating in Santa Anita Park’s annual Derby Day 5K Run and Walk. Accordingly, Santa Anita’s Gate 8, which adjoins the Westfield Santa Anita mall on Baldwin Ave., and Gate 7, at the track’s northwest end, will also be closed to vehicles during the same time frame. Those wishing to visit Clockers’ Corner on Derby Day morning will be able to enter the track on Santa Anita’s northeast perimeter, through Gate 5, or on the track’s southern perimeter, through Gate 3. Gates 3 & 5 will be open for easy access to Clockers’ Corner beginning at 5 a.m. and will remain open throughout the day. Santa Anita’s main track will be closed for training at 7:30 a.m. Gate 3 is located at the intersection of Holly Ave. and Huntington Drive. Gate 5 is located at the confluence of Colorado Place and Huntington Drive.
49th Arcadia Invitational national track meet, Friday – Saturday, April 8-9 at Arcadia High School: For each of the last 15 years, the Arcadia Invitational has ranked first in the nation in the number of EPI Elite marks achieved among high school meets, serving as proof of Arcadia’s unmatched levels of depth throughout all event areas. The meet has also produced 26 national records while an amazing 152 meet alumni have gone on to represent the United States in Olympic Games competition!
