Clara Baldwin Stocker’s Home

One of Arcadia oldest homes known as “Twin Oaks,” remains occupied today, and is in excellent condition. Located in the 200 block on West Foothill Blvd., almost hidden by trees and shrubbery, Clara Baldwin Stocker’s home is a true treasure of the past. In 1904, after the “Clara Villa” was transformed from their private residence into a tourist attraction, Clara and her husband purchased “Twin Oaks.” It is said that the couple purchased the estate from another opera singer. (Clara’s fourth husband, Harold Stocker, was a light opera singer, whose stage name was Stuart Harold.)

Their estate was a center for entertaining and they did so lavishly. Guests included members of the entertainment and music crowd as well as sport figures. (Clara’s third husband was the famous sulky driver, Budd Doble.) Their parties could last days, so the gossip at the time indicated. Clara continued to entertain in the home for several years before she died in 1929.
