CITY RECEIVES NOTICE THAT SELF-DRIVING TAXIS MAY BE COMING

This week, we were informed by Waymo that they have sought approval to expand into the San Gabriel Valley. Waymo (a Google company) has been operating driverless taxis in San Francisco for several years and recently expanded into the Los Angeles area for their pilot programs. Waymo has now applied to the CA Department of Motor Vehicles to include Arcadia in its testing area. If approved, they would be allowed to test the system of driverless vehicles operating in the City but would not yet offer a taxi service here. The letter we received stated that they would inform us before starting any such testing in Arcadia and that they may not expand to this area immediately even if approved. We are reviewing our options

and learning more about their operations. We will keep you updated.
