CITY CONTINUES TO DEAL WITH STREET LIGHTING OUTAGE

City Manager reported a while back about a group of streetlights in the Catalpa Road area west of the Arboretum that have been out due to outdated and failing 6.6V equipment. The City made the repairs it could make and has been pressuring SCE for months to carry out the repairs they need to do to get the system back up and running. SCE would rather abandon the systems completely and have been reticent to spend the time and money for the repairs. While we absolutely will need to upgrade the lights in the (near) future, we have pushed
back and leaned on them to prioritize repairs. Thanks in part to some added pressure from Supervisor Barger’s Office, we have finally made progress with SCE’s staff; they have now committed to purchasing the parts needed to get things back online. The bad news is that it will take about 3 months for those parts to arrive. We will continue communicating with the neighborhood on the progress of things in the meantime and will ensure that the Police Department is keeping an extra watchful eye on the area. As you can guess, a
few residents are especially frustrated with the ongoing darkness each evening.
