City Clerk Glasco available for weddings

With new legislation giving City Clerks authority to perform marriages, Arcadia‘s elected City Clerk Gene Glasco says he is ready, willing, and happy to provide this service for couples at venues of choice ranging from the Queen Anne Cottage to the Queen Mary. Just call him at (626) 456.4366 to make arrangements to schedule your marital vows at home or anywhere else with a simple yet solemn ceremony. He says there will only be a nominal fee plus any travel expenses if the chosen venue goes well beyond the borders of Arcadia. Arcadia city officials say a new policy is being worked out that would potentially allow marriages to take place at City Hall or other City facilities.

Glasco says that effective January 1, 2015, performing marriages couldn’t be easier as a result of AB 1525 giving elected or appointed City Clerks within California the authority to marry couples anywhere in the State of California. He says elected or appointed City Clerks can provide marriage ceremonies for couples who have obtained either a “Public” or “Confidential” marriage license from the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s office.

To prepare for this new responsibility, Glasco attended a course of study administered by the Los Angeles County Clerk earlier this month authorizing him to perform the Solemnization of Marriages by City Clerks. The marriage license, valid for 90 days from the date of issuance, is obtained from the County Recorder’s office and must be in the City Clerk’s possession prior to the marriage ceremony.

While Glasco is in discussions with City officials about making the civil marriage process available at City Hall, AB 1525 gives legislative authority to Arcadia’s City Clerk to officiate marriage ceremonies in Arcadia or any city or county within the State of California.

Longtime Arcadia resident Glasco is a realtor for Century 21 and also President of the Arcadia Historical Society, among many other hats he wears.
