Arcadia’s Rabbit Industry

Arcadia was well known for being the “Poultry Capital of Southern California.” It might surprise some that it was also the home of the “Rabbit Growers of America.” The national headquarters for the rabbit grower’s organization was on Genoa Street in Arcadia, California. The Arcadia Tribune was the official publisher of its newsletter and journal. A correspondence school was available for those interested in the rabbit raising industry and participation in this program was worldwide. The organization held monthly meetings at Arcadia City Hall with over 100 regularly attending. Prominent guest speakers were featured at the meetings providing the latest developments in the industry.

The Arcadia Tribune covered news of the organization regularly from 1932 into 1939 when the National Rabbit Federation in Fontana, California (established in 1927) apparently took over the leadership.
