Arcadia’s City Election – July 27, 1903

In 1903, Baldwin decided to incorporate Arcadia, to give it a government with tax money of its own.  An election was held on July 27, 1903 and 35 votes favored incorporation, none opposed it.  An organizational meeting was held on August 17th and the Oakwood Hotel was designated as the seat of government. At incorporation, population was sparse, though territory was vast.  The city had 369 inhabitants and the city boundaries remain approximately the same as today.  Arcadia encompasses a little less than 8,000 acres or about 12 square miles.
