ARCADIA REMEMBERS COUNCIL MEMBER ROGER CHANDLER

November 15, 2021 – It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the City of Arcadia announces the passing of Council Member Roger Chandler after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Chandler is survived by his wife Jane and their two sons. “I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend and colleague,” said Mayor Sho Tay. “My family and I send our sincerest condolences to Jane and the entire Chandler family. Roger’s presence on the City Council will be missed but his legacy of service and his impact on Arcadia will live on for generations.” A lion of the City Council and a pillar of public service, Mr. Chandler lived in Arcadia for over 40 years and served on the City Council for nearly 24 years. As a lifelong servant of the public good, Mr. Chandler began his career at 21, joining the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department where he served with distinction for 24 years. After retiring from the Sheriff’s Department, he went on to become the Chief of Police of the Los Angeles City Housing Authority and, in 1994, he created the City of Hawaiian Gardens Police Department. Mr. Chandler was elected to six terms on the Arcadia City Council, serving four times as Mayor. During his career on the City Council, he consistently demonstrated a commitment to ensuring Arcadia residents receive outstanding public services, and was particularly focused on public safety and water quality issues. Mr. Chandler was well known as a force for his common sense approach to the City’s municipal affairs. On behalf of the entire City of Arcadia family, we stand in silent remembrance of Council Member Roger Chandler in tribute to his courage, conviction, and service. Memorial donations may be made to City of Hope in his honor.
