Arcadia in Rose Court again

An Arcadian will be in the Tournament of Roses Royal Court once again this year, with 17-year-old Arcadia High School senior Tatyane Anaid Berrios being named one of seven members of the 2011 Royal Court this morning at Tournament House in Pasadena.

The other six members of the 2011 Royal Court (l-r): Tenaya Miyoko Senzaki, 17, Pasadena High School; Jessica Michelle Montoya, 17, Flintridge Preparatory School; Sarah Christine Fredrickson, 17, Maranatha High School; Michelle Kaye Washington, 18, Pasadena City College; Kathryn Morris Thomson, 17, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy; Evanne Elizabeth Friedmann, 17, La Canada High School

The seven were chosen from a group of 31 finalists chosen after a month-long process in which more than 1,000 Pasadena-area young women participated. (Two other AHS students made the top 31: Jaslyn Elders and Giselle Hillier.) Selections were based on a range of qualities including public speaking ability, poise, academic achievement, community involvement and personality. An Arcadia student has been the Rose Queen for the past three years in a row, with two of the past three being AHS students. The 2011 Rose Queen will be announced at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19. The newly selected Rose Queen and Royal Court will reign for an entire year until the new court is selected in October of 2011.

As ambassadors of the Tournament of Roses, the Royal Court members will attend more than 150 community and media functions leading up to the 122nd Rose Parade presented by Honda and 97th Rose Bowl Game on Saturday, January 1, 2011.

Tatyane is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Care for Kids and the Red Cross Club. She also volunteers at her church and with local elementary schools.

In her free time, she enjoys dancing, hiking, drawing and swimming. She is also passionate about traveling as she feels it provides her with a better understanding of the world and educates her in the different cultures, traditions and languages while making her appreciate what the United States has to offer. Tatyane speaks Spanish and Portuguese and plans to pursue a career as a pediatrician. Her parents are Ariel and Leticia Berrios. She has three siblings Yanitza, 16, Ariel, 9, and Efrain, 6.
