Anita Baldwin was a very generous person, but in many cases, did not want her generosity revealed. One instance, in particular, was the aid given to servicemen after World War I and into the Great Depression. Anita directed a close associate to rent a hotel on San Pedro Street in Los Angeles to serve as headquarters and a main dormitory. An employment agency was established, meals were served and clothing furnished. The program continued until Federal Relief Agencies were established.
