An Arcadia Early Home Still Standing

Known over the years as ”The Mellon House,” this interesting ranch type house is over 104 years old having been built in 1913.

It has a complex and intriguing history.  What is known is that it was constructed by an owner named Mellon.  A longtime resident stated that the builder was a brother of Andrew K. Mellon, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (1921-1930). Some say that the Secretary vacationed here in the summer of 1921. At that time (1921), Andrew Mellon was considered to be the third richest man in the country, behind John D. Rockefeller and Henry Ford.  The residence has changed over the years, but its underlying uniqueness is still recognized.

At present, it is owned by the Wesleyan Holiness Church.
