An Airport for Arcadia?

In 1926 when air travel became important, it was necessary to find airport locations, particularly in the eastern part of Los Angeles. A large parcel of vacant land containing several hundred acres in the south center of Arcadia, owned by Clara Baldwin Stocker, was considered to be an ideal location for such an airport.

Arcadia’s city council instructed Mayor Multer to negotiate with Los Angeles officials and Mrs. Stocker to make a deal. Nothing was accomplished. Later, in 1928, a proposal came to build an aircraft manufacturing plant and airport on this land. Arcadia’s Planning Commission denied the proposal.
