AHS grad in World Series

Arcadia High School graduate Jenna Rodriguez (class of 2007) and her University of Hawai’i softball team played UCLA today (Friday) on ESPN in the second round of the NCAA Women’s College World Series, losing 5-2.

Jenna hit a walk-off three-run home run on Sunday to propel the UH Rainbow Wahine to the Series for the first time in school history, according to HawaiiNewsNow.

Rodriguez’s game-winner in the bottom of the seventh in the deciding game of the Tuscaloosa Super Regional — her 16th home run of the year — upset top-seeded Alabama 5-4.

Hawai’i, the 16th and lowest seeded team left in the tournament, then went on to upset ninth-seeded Missouri 3-2 Thursday with another seventh-inning game-winning home in the first game of the Series in Oklahoma City, according to the Pasadena Star-News.

The “Bows” have an NCAA record 156 home runs this season.

Another AHS alum, Dana Johnson, is one of the assistant managers for the UCLA team, where she earned a percussionist scholarship.
