A Church Made From a Brick Reservoir

img_0109

On Duarte Road, west of Baldwin Avenue and just outside Arcadia’s city limits, stood an old brick reservoir.

The congregation of the Christian Science Society of South Santa Anita bought the land in 1914 to build a suitable meeting place.

The architect hired made plans to transform the reservoir into a church rather than to demolish it. On March 22, 1915, the first service was held in the new church.

Many years later the land was annexed by the city of Arcadia, and by 1950 a new church was built on the property.

Today, this congregation has built a new church on South First Avenue. In 1946 their name was changed to First Church of Christ, Scientist, Arcadia.
