The Friends of the Arcadia Public Library recently donated a whopping $50,000 to the Library for the purchase of books and other materials and for programs for children, teens, and adults.
This was one of the largest annual donations from The Friends, a 56-year-old volunteer non-profit organization whose members work six days a week stocking and operating the used book store inside the entrance to the Library.
The check was presented May 10 by Friends President Jerry Selmer to the Library Board of Trustees and Library management during a ceremony at the Friends’ annual lunch program to thank Library volunteers. Another check for $1,000 was presented to the Library by the Masonic Lodge.
The Friends funds provide support fpr the majority of the Library’s children’s programming, in particular the popular annual Children’s Summer Reading Program, as well as a Teen Summer Reading program.
