233 E. Huntington Drive: The Derby Restaurant

In 2011, the Arcadia Historical Society placed a “History Lives Here” Marker on The Derby site to commemorate its history as being one of Arcadia’s treasurers. Built in 1922 on Foothill Boulevard and moved to its present location in 1927, The Derby has enjoyed fame and success. It has been a gathering place for horse racing fans, jockeys and patrons of Santa Anita Park ever since it was purchased by George Woolf, the renowned jockey, in 1938. George, “The Iceman,” died in 1946, and today’s owners have maintained the restaurant’s reputation for excellence. They have an interesting collection of racing memorabilia on display in the lobby area.
