13 Flood Control

Prior to 1922 little thought had been given to the control of flood waters that could devastate the city, its streets and low lying neighborhoods. The season 1923-24 was a particularly dry period with 9.78 inches of rain. Little was done in the 1930s because of the financial difficulties of the Great Depression. It wasn’t until after WWII that work began in earnest. In the middle 1950s massive flood control projects were well under way.
