EI Monte City officials have tentatively approved to have a huge marijuana growing center established at 4400 Temple City Blvd., El Monte (right next to Home Depot)

Do you know that EI Monte City officials have tentatively approved to have a huge marijuana growing center established at 4400 Temple City Blvd., El Monte (right next to Home Depot that we shop all the time)?

This will probably become the largest cannabis facility in Southern California if passed, to grow, process, test and distribute marijuana. Here are some facts about this facility to be built:

1, This facility will occupy an area of 4.4 acres with an indoor Space of 71,658 square foot.

2, The facility will produce 8850 plants with 5 harvest per year and approx 207,680 ounces (12,980 lbs) of cannabis per year.

3, According to Federal law, all marijuana sales transactions can only be conducted in cash.

4, The facility will be in production 7 days a week, 9 am-7 pm, and delivering marijuana Mon – Fri, 9am-7pm.

4, The operating company GSC Holding Group, LLC and its owner Ms. Tsai will contribute $175K to the City of El Monte annually, plus 1.5% of Gross receipts from Manufacturing and 1% of Gross receipts from distribution. They also promise to hire 10% of its employees (46 in total) from El Monte, which is only 4 or 5.

5, The facility is surrounded by at least 10 schools within 0-2 mile radius, 11 schools within 2-3 mile radius, and 8 schools within 3-4 mile radius. 29 schools in total in Temple city, Arcadia, Rosemead, El Monte, San Gabriel etc (listed at the bottom).

6, The facility is directly adjacent to residential areas and retail commercials properties.

Such a huge marijuana growing, processing, laboratory testing and distribution base will become a tremendous potential danger to the safety and life quality of our community – San Gabriel Valley at large, for obvious reasons as below:

1, Huge amount of cash transactions and the storage of marijuana product will very likely attract all kinds of criminals, or even fights between gangsters and other potential safety issues.

2, Growing and processing marijuana will emit gases. On the instance of lack of management in production and processing of marijuana, gas is emitted from malfunctioned equipment, storage and treatment of wastes, etc.

3, The concept of having a large Marijuana production base in our community, medicinal or recreational, poses an extremely negative cultural and financial impact to its surroundings, especially the numerous schools listed below, private property value, and the businesses nearby.

As a result, these factors could severely pollute the land and air quality of the surrounding areas, pose health hazard, expose young people to serious undesirable influences, mislead younger generations, create traffic, noise and water pollution, last but not least, cause property value to drop. In a word, the consequences are far beyond serious.

According to information released by the city of El Monte, money is not the only reason why the city officials want to have this marijuana base built in the border of El Monte and Temple city. Stories also tell that political contributions were possibly involved to help certain council members run for State office.

El Monte city officials made such a regressive decision in disregard of the health and safety of its own city but also for neighboring cities like Arcadia, Temple City, Rosemead and the San Gabriel Valley communities at large, just for the city income and a few pitiful job opportunities, and the alleged political contribution.

For you, your family and our neighborhood’s safety, for the healthy living environment and the positive culture of our community,

we urge you, our neighbors of Arcadia and of cities in San Gabriel Valley to boycott El Monte city officials’ and the marijuana grower’s senseless and selfish conduct!

* Please email to citycouncil@elmonteca.gov (recommended) or call (626)580-2015, (626)258-8626 to express your concerns or objection to the El Monte Officials.

* Meanwhile you can also ask your own city council to support the boycott from official level and to conduct its own Environmental Impact Review.

* Moreover, you can join the protest march organized by local residents at 11 am on Dec 8th, from the site of 4400 Temple city blvd to .

* Final decision on passing the project will be made at the El Monte City Council meeting at 6 pm, Dec 18th, El Monte Civic Center.

Please, show up to Save Our Community!
