Top Award for Arcadia Rec

The City of Arcadia received the 2009 Award of Excellence from the California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS) for its Summer Concert in the Park series.

The award in the category of Agency Marketing Campaign was announced at the 2009 California and Pacific Southwest Recreation and Park Training Conference in Palm Springs March 9-12, 2010.

Agency Showcase Awards recognizes excellence in printed or on-line materials that encourage participation in recreation activities, strengthen community image and sense of place, promote health and wellness, foster human development, increase cultural unity, protect environmental resources, and facilitate community problem solving.

According to Sara Somogyi, Director of Recreation and Community Services, the CPRS awards program is the highest statewide recognition our agency can receive and our department’s award is a credit to all that were involved to make this happen.

CPRS Executive Director Jane H. Adams states, “The City of Arcadia was selected to receive this prestigious award due to its commitment to setting new directions by addressing a community wide program issue.

The City of Arcadia Concerts in the Park marketing campaign was redesigned to promote the new elements that were incorporated into the series. A new logo and publicity pieces were created to advertise the new elements such the kids’ fun zone, community collaborations, and new event time.

The compilation and roll-out of the new marketing campaign contributed to a successful concert series for Arcadia. In addition to addressing the community wide program issue, the City of Arcadia identified clear and measurable outcomes and played a leading role in bringing together multiple community resources to address this challenge. CPRS and the award sponsors, Hunter, Little Tikes Commercial Play Systems, and RJM Design Group, Inc., are proud to recognize the City of Arcadia for its efforts in this category.

The California Park & Recreation Society Awards Committee presented awards in six categories: * Recreation/Community Services * Agency Showcase (for marketing materials and campaigns) * Professional and Service * Facility Design * Park Planning * Maintenance Management and Operations
