The New California Landscape

Saturday, November 4, 2017 10am-12:30pm Instructor, Jill Morganelli It’s the fall session of The New California Landscape!  The weather (hopefully) cools down and the days shorten up and that means… it’s time to build.

Construct: Warm yourself up on cool mornings and burn off some extra calories before the holidays.  We’ll discuss how to build berms, swales, dry arroyos and hugelkulturs.  We will also address solid irrigation designs with built-in hydrozones for all kinds of garden applications, along with best irrigation management practices to keep your landscape healthy and hydrated all year long.  Rounding out our symposium is an in-depth look at permeable hardscape materials.

Plant: Now is the time to plant California natives, herbs, winter vegetables, and examine a fall plant palette and landscape fill-ins.  Prepare to be wowed by our Plant ID segment:  Arboretum autumn color overachievers.

Nourish: And, as always, massive soil building strategies!  Finish the new look with a lovely, fertile, mycorrhizal(ly) topsoil and appropriate mulches that work synergistically with whatever you are growing.

There is going to be a lot of information presented and a lot of ground to cover so we are going to be moving fast, both physically and mentally!  Bring confortable shoes, sun protection, and plenty of hydration.

$25 Arboretum members; $35 per non-member (includes Arboretum admission) Reservations are preferred: Please call 626.821.4623 or pay at the door
