Nordstrom’s Hallelujah flash mob

Typically flash mobs of hundreds or even thousands of people descend on a large outdoor public space to dance to a popular classic hit like Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” to the delight of surprised onlookers and then post the video on YouTube.

The latest such flash mob had a unique holiday twist and took place right here in Arcadia at the Westfield Santa Anita Nordstrom store on Saturday (Dec. 18) when about 300 members and friends of the Los Angeles Master Chorale gathered around the escalators, racks of clothes, and filled up the somewhat limited spaces of the aisles in the store and delighted customers with an unannounced rousing performance of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah. You aren’t likely to find a much better injection of the Christmas spirit this week than the five-minute video below. Hallelujah to the L.A. Master Chorale, Nordstrom’s and everyone involved in the coordination and execution of this wonderful event and the terrific video so quickly and well assembled and posted on YouTube (link requires access to YouTube). — By Scott Hettrick
