Message from CEO of Foothill Transit RE Mask

Masks welcome but not required on Foothill Transit buses

A decision made yesterday afternoon by U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle in Tampa ended the mask mandate for airlines and public transportation. The guidance put out by the TSA empowers individual agencies to determine whether or not they would continue with the mandate, but that TSA would no longer be enforcing wearing masks.

Effective today, Foothill Transit will welcome mask wearing for those who wish to wear them on board our buses. We will no longer require that masks be worn by customers or coach operators.

Signage and customer service messaging is being altered. Last night and this morning we have been in contact with our contractors to ensure that everyone is on the same page.

Unfortunately this change at the Federal level occurred with no advance notice. We have had plans in place to move to masks being optional as we anticipated that would be possible at some point. That said, we are having to scramble to put those plans in motion extremely quickly. We do anticipate that there will some confusion with our customers over the next 24 to 48 hours. We will be using all of our communication tools to inform our riders of this change in approach.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your ongoing support during these turbulent times!
