Lucky Baldwin’s Birthday Today, April 3, we celebrate the birthday of Arcadia’s founder, Elias Jackson Baldwin, born 189 years ago, in 1828.
In his lifetime Baldwin not only became a multi-millionaire, but introduced Japanese acrobat artists to the American public, was the first President of the San Francisco Stock Exchange, became the largest Southern California landowner in 1880 of about 45,000 acres, was the owner of three hotels and a Theater of note, owned the greatest casino in the nation (Tallac at Lake Tahoe) and became one of the most successful horseman in American thoroughbred racing history.
