Fire at 914 Fairview


On 8/24 at 5:10 p.m. AFD responded to an apartment house fire at 914 Fairview. Upon arrival the unit was fully involved and when the initial crew was making entry into the unit the stairs were untenable. A second alarm was requested and crews took a defensive posture and entered the attached units to cut off the fire spread. The fire unit (unit 15) was red tagged by the building inspector. Three units were yellow tagged (units 13, 14 and 16).

The resident of unit 15 was transported to AMH with breathing difficulties. She had tried to re enter her unit while we were arriving on scene.

The property consists of two 8-unit buildings. Units 1-8 were not damaged. Residents were allowed back into those units after 10 p.m. The residents in Units 9 through 12 were also allowed back in after 10 p.m.

The injured resident of unit 15 is still in AMH. The cause is accidental. There are various photos posted on social media including our Fire Department’s Instagram Page.

AFD had Fairview closed between Sunset and Golden West closed until after 11 p.m. AFD had assistance from the fire departments of Monrovia, Pasadena, Sierra Madre, San Marino, Los Angeles County and Santa Fe Springs along with APD for traffic.
