DOWNTOWN ALLEYS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT OUTREACH BEGINS

The City applied for and received Metro’s Measure M Multi-Year Subregional Program funds through the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments for improvements of the City’s downtown alleyways. The Downtown Alley Improvement Project would complement the Gold Line Station Pedestrian Linkage and the Citywide Bicycle Facility Improvements Projects in closing the first/last mile gap around the station. The project will include design and construction of a “complete street” concept that incorporates shared pedestrian, bike, and vehicle paths along several alleyways in Downtown Arcadia. The improvements may include denoted pedestrian paths and bike lanes, landscape nodes such as small trees, shade opportunities for pedestrians, pedestrian scaled lighting, and other amenities. The City has obtained SWA Group for the design efforts, which are underway. The first community

outreach (virtual) meeting has been scheduled for October 19, 2021, at 3:00 PM. At this meeting, the community will have the opportunity to provide their input on the design concepts. The meeting is open to the public. Registration is required to access the virtual meeting link and can be done at any time at http://tiny.cc/ArcadiaAlleys. The final design is expected to be completed by February 2022. The construction efforts will follow immediately thereafter.
