Documentary praise by Council 8/3

The City Council will recognize James Moxom of Arcadia non-profit WTP Films during the main public session at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, for the one-hour documentary he produced, “Citizens 2010,” that tracks the journey of the Arcadia High School Constitution team and their arguments that resulted in winning the national championship in Washington D.C. this spring.

In a particularly strong moment during a competition shown in the program, one member of the team — Robel Abdella — states that America continues to draw immigrants. Proving the point by exploiting the cultural diversity of the AHS team, Abella notes that his parents came to America from Ethiopia. In turn, four of his teammates sitting next to him add that their parents came from Mexico and three different cities in China.

Moxom, whose company produced a documentary about the national competition last year and focused soley on the AHS team this year, relying on donations and grants, is providing free DVD copies of the video to families of the students on the team. The program will be shown on TV stations around the country in the coming months.
