Arcadians up for election

The Pasadena Star-News selected two candidates to endorse for each office in the state open primary election Tuesday, June 5, including several new and incumbent candidates very familiar to Chamber members and Arcadians:

Selected Star-News recommendations for the lower and upper state chambers and the House of Representatives:

  1. 27th Congressional District (newly configured district includes Arcadia): Judy Chu, Democrat, and Jack Orswell, Republican. Chu was the featured speaker at the Chamber’s Asian Business Night last December, and first-timer candidate Orswell, Republican, raised his family in Arcadia, is an Arcadia reserve police office, and has a security business in the area.

  2. 25th State Senate District: Carol Liu, Democrat, of La Canada Flintridge, and first-time candidate Gilbert Gonzales, Republican, the latter of whom works in Arcadia as Community Relations director at Vons headquarters.

  3. 41st Assembly District: Victoria Rusnak, Democrat, is from the family that owns the high-end car dealerships, including Rusnak Mercedes in Arcadia. South Pasadena Mayor Michael Cacciotti. The Star-News is not endorsing longtime Pasadena Councilman Chris Holden.

  4. 49th Assembly District: Mitchell Ing, Democrat, a banker and city councilman, and Matthew Lin, Republican, a popular surgeon and former San Marino mayor, the latter backed by several Arcadia Councilmen. The Star-News says “establishment favorite” Ed Chau moved into the district to run.
