ARCADIA'S LAST ELECTED CITY CLERK - GENE GLASCO ANNOUNCES HIS RETIREMENT

It is with much sadness that I report that City Clerk Gene Glasco has announced that he plans to retire from his position as elected City Clerk, effective April 17, 2024. He plans to attend his final City Council meeting on April 16, where we will have a reception and presentation honoring his years of service. He also plans to make it to as many meetings as possible between now and then.




Gene Glasco is a native Californian and sixty-eight-year resident of Arcadia. He is serving his third term as the City of Arcadia’s elected City Clerk. Gene attended Highland Oaks Elementary school, First Avenue Junior High School, and is a graduate of Arcadia High School where he lettered in Football and played second chair trombone in the award-winning AHS Marching Band. Gene is Arcadia’s first elected City Clerk that is a graduate of Arcadia High School.Gene served six years in the United States Navy. He spent fourteen months in Vietnam as a Radioman in support of US Navy riverboat activities in the Mekong Delta and is a service-connected disabled Veteran. Gene is an Honor Role graduate of Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo. He attended San Jose State University where he majored in Public Relations with a minor in Asian American History. After thirty years in the foodservice industry, Gene retired from Glasco and Associates, Inc. He has been practicing real estate for 16 years and is a Realtor™ with a prominent Arcadia real estate broker.Gene has volunteered in various capacities for the City of Arcadia and community at large. He was a two-term Commissioner and Chairman of the Arcadia Senior Citizens Commission. He served four years as President of the Arcadia Historical Society and was Vice President of the Arcadia Highlands Homeowners Association.  He was recognized as “Community Activist of the Year” at Congresswoman Judy Chu’s 7th Annual Congressional Leadership Awards in July 2017 and has assisted her office in nominating several candidates to the United States military academies.  Gene is the 2017 recipient of California State Assembly member Ed Chau’s “Make A Difference” award in recognition of his outstanding service to community members of the 49th Assembly District. Gene was named 2017-2018 Citizen of the Year by the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce and the Monrovia Chamber of Commerce awarded him their 2017 Military Service & Stewardship for dedicated assistance to Veterans and their causes.

In past years, Gene frequently traveled to S.E. Asia and speaks fluent Filipino (Tagalog). He is a member of the Arcadia Elks Lodge, where his father was a founding charter member. He is a Life Member of “Gamewardens”, America’s oldest, continuously operating Vietnam veterans’ organization, and founding member of the Vietnam Unit Memorial Foundation in Coronado, CA. He is a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans, Member-American Legion Los Angeles Chinatown Post 628, and Life Member-Arcadia/Monrovia Post 2070 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Gene is the Founder of the Arcadia Vietnam War Monument dedicated May 28, 2016, in the Arcadia County Park. www.ArcadiaVietnamMonument.org

Although his position is largely ceremonial, Gene considers it an honor and privilege to serve his fellow citizens as Arcadia’s elected City Clerk.
