Arcadia Announces March 15 Public Hearing On City Council Redistricting




The Arcadia City Council is seeking public input on draft maps for the redistricting of City Council districts. The next public hearing to review draft maps is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located at 240 W. Huntington Drive. Please note that the City Council meeting begins promptly at 7:00 p.m.


At this meeting, the City Council will consider adopting one of five potential maps that are currently under consideration. These maps under consideration will be posted on the City’s website at least seven days in advance of the public hearing.


Redistricting Criteria

To the extent practicable, district lines will be adopted using the following criteria: (1) geographically contiguous districts (each city council district should share a common border with the next), (2) the geographic integrity of local neighborhoods or communities shall be respected in a manner that minimizes its division, (3) geographic integrity of a city shall be respected in a manner that minimizes its division, (4) easily identifiable boundaries that follow natural or artificial barriers (rivers, streets, highways, rail lines, etc.), (5) lines shall be drawn to encourage geographic compactness. In addition, boundaries shall not be drawn for purposes of favoring or discriminating against a political party, (6) the population deviation between the largest and smallest district cannot exceed 10% per Federal Voting Rights Act requirements.
