Angeles Hwy 2 open

State Route 2 (SR-2) from Vincent’s Gap to Islip Saddle will reopen on Friday, May 7th, at approximately 2 p.m, it was announced today by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).

This 10-mile section of SR-2 just west of Wrightwood closes annually during snow season due to high snow drifts and unmanageable conditions.

Caltrans Maintenance spent the last month plowing snow and making routine repairs to guardrail, signs and the roadway in order to reopen in time for spring.

Severe winter conditions in 2004/05 caused extensive damage at 17 sites along this stretch of SR-2. Additional damage occurred in spring 2006 and required the construction of a bridge designed to allow rocks and run-off water to flow beneath it.  The route reopened in May 2009 after Caltrans District 7 (Los Angeles) spent $10.5 million on a project to make the repairs and safety improvements.

This scenic route provides a direct connection to and from Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties for motorists, sports enthusiasts and emergency responders. The breathtaking scenery and relaxing drive are worth the wait.
